After wading in the water for three hours, we lost track of time and were immersed in the swamp ecosystem while studying the vibrant beauty, the Cooper-Iris flower. We heard birds, frogs, and felt the sultry air moving in the Bald Cypress trees above.
Our camera equipment was kept on our backs until needing a lens change and delicately balanced for the swap out on a log or holding above water.
As we were leaving the swamp, a large black snake swam next to us - we became completely still and thankfully the snake swam away under Ranger Jeff’s watchful stance! It was a honor to work on the study in such a sensitive and protected habitat, while contributing to the conservation of nature!
